RC Law acted as legal counsel to Meliá Hotels International in connection with the $203 million acquisition of the real property located at 132–142 West 27th Street in New York City, on which the 313-key INNSiDE New York NoMad hotel operates.

The transaction brought ownership of the real estate and operation of the INNSiDE New York NoMad together under Meliá, which had operated the hotel prior to the acquisition. The real property was previously owned by Artimus Construction Inc, which was represented by Cassin & Cassin LLP.

RC Law’s legal team was led by Mariana Marangoni (Senior Associate), with support from Xavier Ruiz (Partner), and Daniel Landaluce (Partner), who advised on tax matters.

RC Law acted as legal counsel to Grupo Hotusa, through its Eurostars Hotel Company brand, in connection with the acquisition of The Chemists’ Club Hotel, a 107-key, four-star boutique hotel located in Midtown Manhattan, New York.

The transaction marks the return of The Chemists’ Club Hotel to Eurostars, having previously formed part of the company’s portfolio from 2007 to 2016. With this acquisition, Eurostars now operates seven hotels in the United States, with a presence in New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, and Washington, D.C.

This is the fourth U.S. hotel acquisition in which RC Law has advised Grupo Hotusa, following the acquisitions of Eurostars Winter Haven in Miami Beach, Eurostars The Boxer in Boston, and Eurostars St. Gregory Dupont Circle Georgetown in Washington, D.C. We are proud to continue supporting Grupo Hotusa/Eurostars Hotels as they expand their presence in the United States and appreciate their continued trust in RC Law.

RC Law LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Cristina Adell as an Associate in the firm’s Barcelona office.  Ms. Adell joins the US Real Estate and Corporate teams, bringing extensive experience in US real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and finance.

Prior to joining RC Law, and after obtaining an LLM at the University of Chicago, Ms. Adell worked as a real estate and corporate associate at leading law firms in London and Spain.  She also served as in-house counsel at a prominent hotel investment company.  In these roles, she advised both domestic and international clients on real estate transactions and corporate matters.  Her real estate experience includes advising on complex investment, asset management, financing, and leasing matters across multiple industries.

The transaction reflects Iris Ventures’ continued focus on high-growth, mission-driven consumer health and wellness brands and will support Lucille’s expansion across retail and assisted living channels, as well as the continued development of its differentiated product offering.

It was a memorable evening reconnecting with friends and colleagues and meeting new leaders committed to strengthening collaboration between Spain and the United States.

One year after the successful establishment of an office in Madrid, Spain, RC Law announced the opening of an office in Barcelona.  Like the Madrid office, the purpose of the Barcelona office is to provide U.S. legal advice to local companies and law firms, with emphasis on U.S. international tax law.  In contrast, the 3-member Madrid office team focuses on corporate and venture capital transactions. The Barcelona office will have an initial team of two U.S. trained lawyers who will work in full integration with the Madrid team.

The Barcelona office will be managed by Maria Martinez, U.S. tax attorney counsel to the firm.  Maria, who recently joined the firm, is a Barcelona native, a law graduate from ESADE Law School in Barcelona and holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University in Washington D.C.  She is admitted to practice in Spain and in New York. Maria’s career spans over a period of 20 years as a member of the tax practice groups of international firms such as Baker & McKenzie and EY. While she started her career in Spain, she has spent most of her professional life in the United States (New York City and Washington D.C.)  Immediately prior to joining RC Law, Maria worked at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, as Manager of the Treaty Assistance and Interpretation Team, in the Treaty and Transfer Pricing Operations office of Large Business and International (LB&I).
