RC Law Opens an Office In Barcelona, Spain

One year after the successful establishment of an office in Madrid, Spain, RC Law announced the opening of an office in Barcelona. Like the Madrid office, the purpose of the Barcelona office is to provide U.S. legal advice to local companies and law firms, with emphasis on U.S. international tax law. In contrast, the 3-member Madrid office team focuses on corporate and venture capital transactions. The Barcelona office will have an initial team of two U.S. trained lawyers who will work in full integration with the Madrid team.
The Barcelona office will be managed by Maria Martinez, U.S. tax attorney counsel to the firm. Maria, who recently joined the firm, is a Barcelona native, a law graduate from ESADE Law School in Barcelona and holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. She is admitted to practice in Spain and in New York. Maria’s career spans over a period of 20 years as a member of the tax practice groups of international firms such as Baker & McKenzie and EY. While she started her career in Spain, she has spent most of her professional life in the United States (New York City and Washington D.C.) Immediately prior to joining RC Law, Maria worked at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, as Manager of the Treaty Assistance and Interpretation Team, in the Treaty and Transfer Pricing Operations office of Large Business and International (LB&I).
Founded in 2017 in New York by Xavier Ruiz (also a Barcelona native), RC Law is a boutique law firm with offices in New York, Miami, Houston, Madrid and now, Barcelona. The firm boasts a strong transactional practice and has been consistently ranked as one of the leading law firms in “Corporate, M&A and Private Equity” in Florida, where it is headquarters are located. The firm’s strategy is to practice U.S. law only, irrespective of the location of its offices and teams.
“Barcelona is a unique market where a good number of our clients are located and therefore it is critical to our strategy of getting our legal services closer to their physical location”, said partner Xavier Ruiz. “The rapid success of our Madrid office has encouraged us to move forward with this initiative”, he added. “I am really excited about the opportunity of continuing my career as a U.S. tax practitioner in Spain, while managing our new Barcelona office”, said counsel Maria Martinez. “We are certain that our local clients will appreciate being able to be advised on the always complex U.S. tax matters without the inconvenience of time difference”, added Mrs. Martinez.
The Barcelona office will be located at Avda Diagonal 640.
